Music Monday at HFS

Today is Music Monday! Launched in 2005 by The Coalition for Music Education, Music Monday is the world’s largest single event dedicated to raising awareness for music education. Each year on the first Monday in May, hundreds of thousands of students, educators, and music makers from all across Canada, participate in various activities to celebrate the importance of music in our lives and in our schools. This year’s theme is Sing It Together/Chantons tous ensemble.
Why do we celebrate? We celebrate because Music matters! Music programs create vital communities; Learning music leads to success in life; Our young people deserve the benefits from learning, creating and making music; Canada’s heritage and cultural future is in our classrooms!
Ms. Follett’s Grade 5 and 6 students as well as My Orff Ensemble came together last week to record my arrangement of Bonavist’ Harbour for a special Newfoundland and Labrador Music Monday project that I am sharing with you.  Enjoy!!!

April is Poetry Month

April is Poetry month and we are celebrating poetry at Holy Family School in style!

Each day in April, a student from each classroom has been reading a poem during the morning announcements with Ms. Kolonel, reminding us of this delightful and artful form of language.
